Conclusion

The best gaming monitor by some margin indubitably is the Eizo Foris FG2421. It’s very expensive, but the overall combination of speed, contrast, colour/image accuracy and gaming features makes it very hard to beat – the anti-motion blur technology is second to none. Once you’ve played using this screen for a while, anything else feels like settling.

However, there are other worthy options that are quite a bit more affordable. Iiyama’s ProLite GB2488HSU is definitely one of our favourites, with Asus VG248QE a close second. If you want to go big, Asus’ VG278H is the one to go for, although BenQ’s XL2720Z really is no slouch either. And if you’re on a budget and absolutely must have a fast screen now, consider Iiyama’s ProLite E2473HS – but really, we’d recommend to save up more and get a 120/144Hz screen.

Except… if you have the graphics power and don’t exclusively play twitch FPS games (in which case you’ll want to avoid Ultra HD for the foreseeable future), because in that case we would strongly consider the Samsung U28D590D, as the immersion delivered by gaming at 3,840 x 2,160 resolution is hard to convey in words, but nonetheless all too real in practice.
